Like most of my blogs these days it seems I get tasked with a request to dig into some sort of platform or technology and investigate its capability. Often looking at how it might integrate or enhance a feature or function of one of our own products. In this case, Portworx, Pures data management platform for Kubernetes.

Enter the current request for Rancher. For those of you unfamiliar, Rancher is a cluster management tool that provides a very easy to use, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters across all different platforms be it any cloud, on-prem, bare-metal, or virtual. With support for all the major vendors, it's a great way to provide a single pane of glass for managing many containers, across many clusters with ease.

Rancher has a large audience globally who leverage this technology. It was of particular interest to me as we use it internally for “Pure1”, which runs part of its Software as a service platform on Rancher both in the public cloud and on-prem. For those unfamiliar with Pure1, it is a tool that monitors all of Pure's fleet of storage arrays globally. Pure1 runs AI algorithms to do things like predictive analysis, capacity forecasting, and alerting customers to potential issues before they become problems.
